ABOUT DAVID
Since I was a boy, I have had a knack for building and repairing. Since my very first project building stairs, I now have over 40 years of experience in home repair, construction, and carpentry.
I find great fulfillment in fixing broken things and providing useful solutions for homeowners.
MISSION
My mission is to be the best example I can to younger men. I do this by being and doing my best. I am committed to making a valuable contribution to the world by taking action and helping others. I am a human being AND a human doing.
VALUES
My core value in life is getting things done well, efficiently and in a timely fashion. I believe in "striking while the iron is hot" and value bringing integrity, authenticity and expertise to the projects I work on.
I envision a world where we are interdependent and self responsible. If each of us take ownership of how our daily actions impact the world, we will create a more vibrant and healthy life.
MY STORY
I was born in Rossland, Bc in 1953 and I was the second of seven children. My dad was a war veteran and my mother was an incredible and loving woman. I started my family at 20 years old, and went on to get married and divorced, more than once. I had a 50 year career in power engineering, 8 of which were teaching before I went into semi-retirement. I’ve worked on Canada, Indonesia, Australia, and Taiwan but now I am happily settled in Calgary, Alberta.
I built my own home in Australia, raised a partially rotten house to pristine condition on Gabriola Island and renovated more than a dozen homes, some mine and some for clients, in Canada and Australia.
I learned my skills starting by copying a set of stairs when I was boy and have acquired more than a few skills since then. Although I am not a certified tradesman, I can do and have done most every kind of job that you can think of in a home. I’ve built jewelry box and fences, and I’ve done tiling and roofing. I’ve also supervised projects of all sizes in my international oil and gas work.
For more than 20 years I’ve been doing all manner of home repairs; from barbecues and bed-frames to bicycles and boilers. When I fixed my niece’s Karaoke machine, she said: “Mommy, Uncle David can fix almost anything!” So that’s become a bit of a motto for Master-Fix-It.
My life purpose is to be the best example I can to younger men, being involved in a number of men's groups in Calgary, one of which I lead myself at my community home of Herding Cats Collective.
